Half Pig

A  half Duroc/Hampshire pig will weigh approximately 125 lbs. on the hoof (live weight). Hanging weight will be approximately 90 lbs (72%).

We charge $5.50 per lb. on hanging weight. Your Duroc/Hampshre pig will be custom cut and wrapped based on your wishes @ $1.50 per lb. (paid directly to the butcher).

Summary of Cost

-Quick math based on 180 lbs. hanging weight- 

Half Pig - 90 lbs. x $5.50 = $495.00

Cut & Wrap – 90 lbs. x $1.50* = $91.50

(* some cuts are more expensive (i.e. Curing, smoking, sausage, etc.)

 Your packaged weight is the net weight of the meat you will receive that is packaged and ready for your freezer. It will typically be 75% of the hanging weight. The reduced weight is attributed to the cutting and trimming of fat, connective tissue, bone, etc., as well as moisture lost during hanging. This weight varies depending upon the cuts of meat included and any additional package options, e.g. bones, fat etc.

 Freezer Space

The rule of thumb is one cubic foot of freezer space for every 35 – 40 pounds of packaged meat. A whole pig needs approximately a 2 cubic feet of freezer space.
