A finished Angus steer is about 18 - 24 months old and will weigh approximately 1,000 - 1,200 lbs. on the hoof (live weight). Hanging weight will be approximately 650 - 800 lbs.
We charge $6 per lb. on hanging weight. Your Angus beef will be custom cut and wrapped based on your wishes @ $1.35 per lb. (paid directly to the butcher).
-Quick math based on 6lbs. hanging weight -
Whole Beef - 650 lbs. x $6.00= $3900.00
Cut & Wrap – 650 lbs. x $1.35 = $877.50
Slaughter - $200
TOTAL - $4977.50
Your packaged weight is the net weight of the meat you will receive that is packaged and ready for your freezer. It will typically be 60% of the hanging weight. The reduced weight is attributed to the cutting and trimming of fat, connective tissue, bone, etc., as well as moisture lost during hanging. This weight varies dependent upon the cuts of meat included and any additional package options, e.g. bones, fat etc.
The rule of thumb is one cubic foot of freezer space for every 35 – 40 pounds of packaged meat. A whole beef needs approximately a 20 cubic feet of freezer space.
